Known as Meridia in America & Canada, Reductil in Europe or by the active ingredient Sibutramine Hydrochloride Monohydrate. It's a prescription only slimming pill that is only given to obese people with a BMI of 30 or over.
Meridia is not a fast acting slimming pill. Patients are prescribed the pill for a minimum of 6 months and have to make regular check-ups with their Doctor.
Due to the risks of increasing blood pressure and heart rate this slimming pill should only be taken by obese people that have no other health problems.
The active ingredient in Meridia, sibutramine, works by transmitting message between nerve cells that enhances fulfillment making the body feel fuller. Meridia doesn't suppress appetite, which is your signal to eat. Meridia blocks the re-uptake of the brain chemicals which help regulate the sense of fullness, which is your signal to stop eating.
Common side effects of Meridia include:
- Dry mouth
- Trouble sleeping
- Increased blood pressure
- Increased heart rate
Studies are ongoing into reports of sudden death and heart failure. On December 22, 2008, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an alert to consumers naming 27 different products marketed as “dietary supplements” for weight loss, that illegally contain undisclosed amounts of sibutramine.
Meridia is a Doctor prescribed slimming pill, so we know that it is scientifically proven to work. However, in order to obtain the slimming pill you have to be extremely over weight and have tried other Doctor recommended slimming solutions.
Taking in to account the dangerous side effects and length of time you have to take it, we don't recommend Meridia and think there are safer and quicker acting slimming pills available that are easier to obtain.
